Combination Exercises—A New Way to Challenge Your Body

Jim came to me with an all too familiar dilemma - He has been working out regularly, for about 30 years, on a training routine that would be best classified as “Old School”. His routine is comprised of about 5 workouts a week (high), 3 sets of 10 reps (standard) and divided into sets of exercises that stress the front and then the back of the body on a rotating basis (i.e. bicep & quads on Monday and triceps and hamstrings on Tuesday).

All this time on the same routine has left Jim bored and not seeing much in the way of results. He has continuously increased his weights as his muscles gained strength but now it seems as if things have reached a plateau. Complicating matters, Jim is now experiencing joint pain and is wondering if he should back off of his routine.
