Volunteering

The Lower Lonsdale area has a strong tradition of volunteer spirit, as evidenced by the programs and activities offered at North Shore Neighbourhood House since the early 1940s. As our community expands, that volunteer spirit has grown to encompass the John Braithwaite Community Centre. Today, volunteers at both locations make the historical heart of North Vancouver a friendly and caring community.

It's hard to put a dollar value on the wonderful work these volunteers do. In addition to the tasks they undertake (providing service to others and supporting programs that might not continue without them), volunteers offer that special element that comes with work done just for the joy of doing it.

Volunteers also benefit from their efforts by:

  • Feeling fulfilled and appreciated for their experience, help and contributions to the community
  • Staying active and involved in retirement
  • Remaining connected and making new friends
  • Gaining experience, knowledge and confidence
  • Learning more about Canadian culture.
